I met this wonderful lady from Montana during my first week of class. She has been such a blessing to me. Her husband is here for 2 years on business so she is trying to learn the language. She lives a couple of miles up the road in the financial dictrict of Santiago (Los Condes)referred to by some as "Sanhattan". When I first went to their apartment, I was amazed. Normally I wouldn´t be so impressed by a kitchen or bathroom but their apt is a lot larger and more modern than mine. It´s fun because when you get to their floor, the elevator door opens right into their living room. When they moved here, they essentially packed up their entire house and brought it with them so they have all the extras. I often come over on Friday nights for dinner and stay over in my own room that has a bathroom, huge shower with hot water and high water pressure, a queen-sized bed, and balcony. I also do my laundry in a washer AND dryer (no one has dryers here). I also have the Mac in my room which allows me to catch up on my blog or watch Lost while eating whatever I want. I´m tellin´ you, it´s like a mini vacation home. We also do our grocery shopping at a place called Jumbo. It´s name says it all. Remember when I said that my eating habits were about to change because the grocery stores were little? Well, this place is like a huge SuperTarget. Overall, I feel so grateful that I live where I do. I am having so many wonderful experiences there. On the other hand, I am also grateful to have a temporary place to go where I can feel like something and someone is familiar.
